Our school aged Learn To Swim program is a complete program from the hesitant beginner through to those swimmers working on perfecting all four swimming strokes. Our levels are designed for children to progress through and develop the building blocks of all strokes, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.

4 children in a class
This class encourages water confidence and builds the foundation for swimming skills. Students will be introduced to skills including, submerging, floating, and developing a strong kicking action & independent swimming.

Skill Focus
The ability to safely and confidently enter and exit the pool.
A willingness to confidently and independently submerge underwater.
Confidence to perform an assisted 5 second front float, rotating to a 5second assisted back float and swims to wall.
Confidence to perform a 5 second front float, rotating to a 5 second back float and independently swims to wall.
Ability to push and glide with correct head, body and arm position.
Freestyle streamline with correct head, body and arm position and continuous kick.
The ability to confidently swim independently, with basic breathing skills.
With assistance kick on back, with a strong kick and correct body position.
Independently kick on back, with a strong kick & correct body position.
Confidence in the water and follows teachers directions.

4 children in a class
This class builds on the skills learnt, and develops a basic Freestyle arm action, and continued practice in maintaining a strong kick. Freestyle breathing technique becomes a focus in the development of correct stroke technique.

Skill Focus
Ability to push and glide with correct head, body and arm position.
Freestyle streamline with correct head, body and arm position with a continuous kick.
Basic freestyle coordination skills, strong kick with a basic straight arm action.
Bubble, bubble, breathe – the body rotation and coordination of freestyle breathing skills.
Independently kicking on back, with a strong kick and correct position.
The ability to independently push & glide in a streamline position.
Backstroke streamline with correct head, body and arm position, with a strong continuous kick.
Independently swim, roll over float on back, roll over, swim back to wall.
Confidence to submerge and swim underwater to collect an objectfrom the pool floor.
Confidence in the water and follows teachers directions.

4 children in a class
Students in this level will develop a natural breathing pattern & begin to develop Freestyle with a breathing technique. Students will also progress with Backstroke skills.

Skill Focus
Freestyle streamline with correct head, body and arm positionwith a continuous kick.
Bubble, bubble, breathe - the body rotation and coordination of freestyle breathing skills.
Freestyle independently, with a basic bilateral breathing pattern.
8m freestyle independently, with correct technique and bilateral breathing pattern.
The ability to independently kick in a streamline position on their back.
Correct arm position and timing of backstroke arm action.
Independently kick on back with a basic sculling arm action, essential life saving skill.
Confidence to submerge and swim underwater to collect an object.
Students listens to the teachers instructions and takes on board technique feedback.

5 children in a class
This class focuses on further improving Freestyle and Backstroke whilst also introducing Breaststroke kick. Learning to swim Breaststroke with effective technique will assist any student in an aquatic emergency situation.

Skill Focus
Bubble, bubble, breathe - the body rotation and coordination of freestyle breathing skills.
Completes 10m of freestyle with correct body position and an efficient bilateral breathing pattern.
Streamline with correct head, body and arm position and continuous kick.
Completes 10m of backstroke with correct body position and continuous kick and arm action.
Ability to perform a basic breaststroke kicking action on a kickboard with correct shape of kick (does not need to have ankle flexion).
Breaststroke kick in a streamline position with correct technique, ankle and foot position.
Confidence to submerge and swim underwater to collect an object.
Perform breaststroke kick on back and use a basic under water sculling action, essential life saving skill.

5 children in a class
This class develops the students endurance and continues to ensure that correct technique is both enhanced and practiced in all strokes. Students will strengthen their Breaststroke kick and be introduced to Butterfly kick.

Skill Focus
Completes 12m freestyle independently, with a strong kick and efficient breathing technique.
Drop down underwater, push off in a streamline with correct head, body and arm position.
Completes 12m backstroke with correct body position and continuous kick and arm action.
Performs breaststroke kick in streamline position with correct ankle, knee and hip position.
Performs a strong breaststroke kick with propulsion and glide in a streamline position.
Student performs continuous butterfly kick with correct head and body position.
Completes one forward roll independently.
Perform a breaststroke kick on back and use a basic underwater sculling action, essential life saving skill.

5 children in a class
This level is a fantastic opportunity for students as they will now be practicing all four strokes. Breaststroke and Butterfly arm actions will be introduced while Freestyle and Backstroke will become more technical and efficient. Swimmers will learn basic Freestyle and Backstroke tumble turns.

Skill Focus
12m freestyle with a strong kick, bent elbow recovery and fluent bilateral breathing pattern.
12m backstroke with a propulsive kick, maintaining continuous arm action and body position.
Performs breaststroke kick in streamline position with correct ankle, knee and hip position.
Performs breaststroke arm action with basic technique and timing of breathe.
12m breaststroke with basic technique, timing and body position.
Performs 4 strokes of butterfly with a streamline start and no breathing. Correct kick and basic timing with an overwater arm recovery.
Complete a tumble turn, streamline and continually swims Freestyle.
Complete a tumble turn, streamline and continually swims Backstroke.

8 children in a class
Swimmers will be introduced to lap swimming, lane etiquette and using tumble turns in their swimming practice. Students strength and endurance will increase and they will learn to perform a dive. Students are required to bring their own flippers and drink bottle with them to their lesson.

Skill Focus
Confidently swim 25m freestyle, with a propulsive kick and efficient bilateral breathing.
Complete a tumble turn, streamline and continually swim freestyle with bilateral breathing pattern.
Confidently swim 25m backstroke with a propulsive kick, maintaining continuous arm action and good body position
Completes a backstroke tumble turn with correct entry, body position on wall and exits in streamline position.
Basic understanding of an underwater breaststroke pull out, continuously swim.
Butterfly with correct stroke timing, strong kick and building swimming endurance.
The ability to swim 100m continuously, 25m of Butterfly,Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle.
Has a basic understanding of lap lane etiquette, swimming onthe left and spacing between swimmiers.

10 children in a class
Students will now be swimming repetitive laps and will be using the pace clock. Drills will be used to enhance their technique. Strength and endurance will improve further. Students are required to bring their own flippers and drink bottle with them to their lesson.

Achievements
Confidently swim 50m freestyle, with a propulsive kick and efficient bilateral breathing.
Confidently swim 50m backstroke with a propulsive kick, maintaining continuous arm action and good body position.
Breaststroke swim 50m with correct timing, propulsive kick and building endurance.
The ability to perform a breaststroke turn with a breaststroke pull out, with correct timing and technique.
Butterfly with correct stroke timing, and building swimming endurance.
The ability to swim 200m continuously, 50m of Freestyle. Backstroke, Breaststroke & Butterfly.
Confidently crouch dive, streamline with dolphin kicks, continue swimming Freestyle.
Understanding the use of pace clock during the lesson.
